Drusen are yellow lipid deposits that form between the retinal pigment epithelium and the Bruch's membrane of the retina. Hard drusen are small and spaced out while soft drusen are large and clustered. The presence of some hard drusen are usually of little consequence and are common in individuals over age 40. Soft drusen, however, increase the risk for macular degeneration | |
