Sicily, Sentinel-3B thermal-infrared satellite image. Launched on 25 April 2018, Sentinel-3B obtained this image with its radiometer's thermal-infrared channels. Shown here is the island of Sicily in southern Italy, surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea with the hotspot of the volcano of Mount Etna clearly visible at centre. The 'brightness temperature' scales for sea (blue) and land (red-orange) are shown at bottom. The land brightness temperature range is 296 to 320 Kelvin. The ocean temperature range is 290 to 295 Kelvin. Clouds (black) are opaque to thermal-infrared radiation. Image published in June 2018.
