Shifa pharmaceutical plant,Sudan, satellite image. This pharmaceutical plant is on the outskirts of Khartoum, the capital city of Sudan. It was alleged to have been a chemical weapons factory, producing a precursor to VX gas,and was bombed by the US in 1998 in retaliation for attacks on two US embassies in Africa. Claims that Shifa produced chemical weapons have since been refuted by the Sudanese government and westerners that have worked at the plant. Taken by the Ikonos satellite on 27 September 2000 | |
