CryoSat satellite launch. The European Space Agency's CryoSat satellite launching from Russia on 8th October 2005. The satellite is aboard a converted intercontinental ballistic missile. Minutes after lift off a failure in the launch system led to the rocket and satellite crashing back to Earth,landing in the Arctic Ocean north of Greenland.
