Singapore skyscrapers, satellite image. These are in the Marina Bay area of Singapore. The Singapore River flows from right, emptying into the bay at lower left. This is the historical and financial centre of Singapore, with skyscrapers in the business district (top centre). The historical centre is across the river at centre right. Boats are seen in the bay itself, and roads and bridges connect to the rest of the city. Singapore was founded in 1819 by Stamford Raffles, and it grew to become one of the largest trading centres in South-East Asia. Image taken by the Ikonos satellite on 2 May 2003 | |
