Ancient terracing for the cultivation of maize at Moray in Peru. These fields were created by the Incas,an American Indian people whose empire in Peru lasted from around 1100 AD to 1533 when they were conquered by the Spanish. These terraces were reputedly part of an agricultural experiment that tested different strains of crops. The location of the terraces created a series of microclimates to mimic growing conditions at different altitudes | |
