Lake Powell,USA,satellite image. North at top. Lake Powell (upper right) lies on the Colorado River and marks the border between Utah and Arizona. It is 300 kilometres long and up to 40 kilometres wide. It is an artificial reservoir,created by the construction of the Glen Canyon Dam in 1956. It is used to provide water for the surrounding desert cities,but also serves as a recreation area. There is a hydroelectric plant in the dam which can generate up to 1300 megawatts of power | |
