Mount Etna,Italy,seen from the International Space Station (ISS). Steam is seen rising from the volcano's crater. The upper slopes consist of dark basaltic lava flows. Vegetation (green) on the lower slopes has grown in fertile soils formed from these volcanic rocks. Mount Etna occupies the eastern part of the Italian island of Sicily. It is the largest and most active volcano in Europe,and stands 3323 metres above sea level. It is one of the most active volcanoes in the world.
