Shark Bay,Australia,satellite image. North is at top. Shark Bay is on the coast of Western Australia. The white areas are either salt deposits or sand dunes. The different shades of blue in the sea show the variation in depth from shallow (light blue) to deep (dark blue),ranging from 10 to 50 metres in depth. The area was declared a World Heritage Site in 1991. It is famous for its wildlife,and for its stromatolites,microbial structures that are over 3000 years old.
