Spanish heatwave. Satellite image of the land surface temperature from the heatwave that affected most of Spain and Portugal in the summer of 2004. Temperatures (shown from cool in blue to high in red) were measured by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) from NASA's Aqua satellite. The highest land surface temperature recorded on 1 July 2004 was 59 degrees Celsius. The heatwave caused several deaths from heatstroke and severe damage from forest fires | |
