An alluvial fan is formed by deposits of silt as a river emerges onto flatter land from mountains. This alluvial fan has formed from the Tente River as it flows down from the foothills (bottom) of the Dzungarian Alatau mountains. The alluvial fan is about 30 kilometres across at its widest point.
