Newly laid hedge. Hedge laying is a traditional British and Irish agricultural skill that involves weaving young vertical branches horizontally between wooden stakes interspersed along the length of the hedgerow. This technique prevents gaps forming at the base of the hedge,so that farm animals cannot escape through it. Laid hedges are also good weather barriers and prevent soil erosion.
