Caves of Sare, a prehistoric cave system located in Pyrenees-Atlantiques, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France. These caves are situated within the Atxurio mountain, which is a massive limestone deposit in the town of Sare. The caves were formed millions of years ago due to the erosion of limestone by underground rivers. They are home to various formations such as stalactites, stalagmites, and more. During the Neolithic and Bronze Age periods, the cave of Lezea (one of the most significant) was inhabited by farming and livestock communities. | |
