Lithium-ion battery fire extinguisher presented at the Electric and Hybrid Vehicle Technology Expo in Novi, Michigan, USA. This fire extinguisher is specifically designed to contain fires caused by lithium-ion batteries. Lithium-ion battery fires can be dangerous because of the electrolyte solution they contain, which can release the highly toxic gas hydrogen fluoride (HF) when vapourised. Although each battery uses a different electrolyte solution, many contain fluoride. These fires can quickly intensify and easily reignite if not handled with a suitable solution. This annual event attracts thousands of visitors who come to learn about and demonstrate new technologies and innovations in the automotive and other fields. | |
