Illustration of a Cretaceous scene with Bennettitales seed plants growing in the foreground. These plants were superficially cycad-like, some formed into small shrubs. They had flowers and there is evidence that insects such as Kalligrammatid lacewings fertilised the plants. In the background are some gymnosperms including Sequoias, pine trees and a monkey puzzle (Araucaria sp.). A Mantellisaurus dinosaur is eating the leaves of a Bennettitales shrub. On the ground you can just make out two juvenile pterosaur (Wightia declivirostris) squabbling over a Bennettitales fruit. | |
