High-temperature superconducting (HTS) power transmission cable made of magnesium diboride (MgB2) used at CERN (European Particle Physics Laboratory). Researchers aim to explore the potential use of superconducting technologies developed by CERN for particle accelerators in the electrical distribution systems of future hydrogen-powered aircraft. The use of HTS cables can help minimise energy losses during power transmission and reduce the weight of electrical systems on board. This, in turn, could lead to lighter and more fuel-efficient aircraft. | |
