Illustration of the transient receptor potential cation channel, subfamily V, member 2 (TRPV2) binding cannabidiol (red). TRPV2 can be activated by the binding of a variety of cannabinoids and growth factors, as well as by extreme heat (greater than 52 degrees Celsius) and osmotic and mechanical pressure. Activation leads to the movement of calcium ions through the channel. It plays an important role in the immune response and functioning of heart cells. Over-expression of TRPV2 in cancerous cells leads to a more aggressive cancer.
