The Very Large Telescope (VLT) fires a laser beam from its Laser Guide Star (LGS) at the centre of our galaxy, in the heart of the brightest part of the Milky Way, creating an artificial star in the Earth's mesosphere. This artificial star is used as reference to correct images and spectra. | |
