Fisheye view of the Rubin Auxiliary Telescope (top) at the Vera C Rubin Observatory, Cerro Pachon, Chile. This 1.2 metre diameter optical telescope will form part of the Vera C Rubin Observatory (bottom) which is (as of 2022) under construction and due to be completed in 2024. When completed, the observatory will house the 8.4 metre primary mirror of the Simonyi Survey Telescope. The observatory, formerly known as the LSST, was named in honour of Vera C Rubin (1928 - 2016), an American astronomer who pioneered work on galaxy rotation rates. | |
