Fluorescence micrograph of a leafy liverwort (Lophocolea heterophylla) gametophore consisting of a small shoot and three rows of leaves. The two dorsal rows of leaves are divided into two lobes. The ventral row of leaves are less conspicuous and a different shape. They are called amfigastria. Liverwort leaves have no midrib and are built of one layer of undifferentiated cells. Observed in ultraviolet (UV) light. Magnification: x65 when printed at 10 x 10 cm. | |
