Light micrograph of a corpus albicans in an ovary. A corpus albicans is essentially a scar left behind after an ovum (egg cell) is released from the ovary during ovulation. The abundant pink substance which makes up most of the picture is the fibrous material which makes up the scar tissue. The blue dots are the nuclei of the few cells that are left within the fibrous material of the corpus albicans. Haematoxylin and eosin stained tissue section.
