The diseased liver cells are enlarged or 'ballooned' and contain dark pink irregular bodies known as Mallory hyaline. Fatty liver cells, which result from obesity or excess alcohol, can also be seen as the white circular spaces. Haematoxylin and eosin stained tissue section.
