(CAR) T-cell therapy. Composite coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of T-cells and a lymphoma cancer cell (red). T-cells are a component of the body's immune system. Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy takes T-cells from a patient's bloodstream and reprograms them to recognize a specific protein found on lymphoma cells. The T-cells are reintroduced to the patient's blood system where the find and attack the lymphoma cells. Early trials indicate that CAR T-cell therapy is effective for the treatment of lymphoma in patients with no other good treatment options. Magnification: x3200 when printed at 10 centimetres high.
