Exploded illustration of the Orion Artemis I spacecraft. At top left is the RL10 engine attached to the Interim Cryogenic Propulsion stage. At centre is the Service Module with the Crew Module (black) and Launch Abort System (white) at right. Artemis I, which launched on the 16th November 2022, is the first uncrewed test flight of NASA's Artemis program. It will orbit both the Earth and Moon and travel beyond the Moon. The furthest distance Orion will be from Earth is 450, 000 kilometres. This is longer and further than any spacecraft designed to carry humans has flown before. The Artemis program aims to land the first woman and the next man on the Moon by 2024. | |
