Apollo 17 Command Module nearing splashdown in the South Pacific Ocean at 1:24pm CST on the 19th of December 1972, some 648 miles southeast of the Samoan Islands. The command module carried NASA astronauts Harrison Schmitt, Eugene Cernan and Ronald Evans back to Earth following their mission to the Moon (7 to 19 December 1972). The Apollo 17 mission was the last manned spaceflight to the Moon. | |
