Illustration of a human voltage-gated sodium channel pore domain (blue) bound to a fragment antigen-binding (Fab) region (white) of an antibody. Sodium channels facilitate the movement of sodium ions (Na+) across cell membranes, and generate and propagate action potentials in neurons and muscles. The Fab regions were used to encourage crystallisation of the ion channel and stabilise outside of a cell membrane.
