Charging by friction. After a hard rubber rod is rubbed on synthetic fibre it becomes electrically charged. The charges create an electric field in the surrounding space. When the rod is brought close to small paper bits, the electric field induces charge separation in the bits thus leading to a net electrostatic attractive force between the bits and the rod. | |
