A sign marking sea level at a tourist rest area on route 1 between Jerusalem and the Dead Sea, Israel, just south of Mitzpe Yeriho. The Dead Sea lake surface is about 430 metres below mean sea level and it is the lowest inland sea in the world. Its shoreline has, however, been receding for many years. The sign includes a descriptive caption in Hebrew. | |
