Light micrograph of one of the characteristics of senile involution of the pineal gland: glial scars. They appear as clear regions of variable size, devoid of pinealocytes. They are formed by the second type of pineal parenchyma cells, the glial cells. The glial scars of the pineal gland have the characteristics of glial scars formed by astrocytes in central nervous system lesions. | |
