Aurorae on Proxima Centauri b, illustration. Proxima Centauri is part of the Alpha Centauri star system. It is currently the star closest to Earth. An Earth-sized planet has been discovered orbiting in Proxima Centauri’s 'Goldilocks zone'. Since Proxima Centauri is a red dwarf flare star, its occasional outbursts probably create spectacular aurora’s in the skies of the planet. Our own Sun is barely visible as a dim star in the upper centre. | |
