16th century illustration of the Rich man and Lazarus, a parable of Jesus in the Gospel of Luke. The parable is about Lazarus, a beggar who used to be at the gates of a rich man. Despite his wealth, the rich man didn't help him. When Lazarus dies, he goes to heaven whilst the rich man enters hell. The rich man pleads to Abraham for help but it isn't accepted. Print by Flemish engraver Johannes Wierix in 1593. | |
