Baryte desert rose. Baryte desert rose is a rose-like formation of baryte (barium sulfate, BaSO4) clusters, with inclusion of abundant sand grains. When baryte crystals are formed in arid sandy conditions, such as the evaporation of a shallow salt basin, they may form a circular array of flat plates, giving the rock a shape similar to a rose blossom. | |
