This coronal (frontal view) CT image through the orbits (where the eyes are) shows a medial blowout fracture of the orbit on viewers right. This fracture involves the lamina papyracea, so named due to the very thin nature of this bony margin. Note the tethering and distortion of the medial rectus muscle as a result of the fracture. This can cause diplopia (double vision) from restriction of movement of the medial rectus muscle. | |
