This scene shows an example of the very earliest animals on the ocean floor, 635 to 542 millions of year ago. This was the so-called Ediacaran Period, at the end of the Proterozoic Eon. The front-like creatures rooted to the seabed are Charnia masoni - despite their appearance, they are animals not plants. The disc-like animal in the foreground is Fractofusus misrai. | |
