While traditional medicine still holds sway in Sudan, a familiar part of the culture are spiritual healers who were once known as witch doctors. Respected members of the community, they use among other things herbs, goats' horns, and trance inducing substances to treat many different illnesses from infertility, skin diseases, mental conditions, to intestinal problems and problems such as broken limbs.
