Local anaesthetic is administered into the groin of a patient who is about to undergo an embolectomy. This surgery may be performed in elderly or frail patients who are unsuitable for general anaesthetic. It is still given when the patient is under general anaesthetic as it helps minimise post-operative pain from this area. | |
