Quantum simulator. This Quantum simulator manipulates laser beams to enable them to trap tiny sheets of beryllium atoms and cool them to a fraction of a degree above absolute zero (-273.15 Celsius). The atoms at the edge of this sheet then behave as quantum bits (qubits), similar to the '0' and '1' of binary computer codes, and are used to model physical structures that are otherwise impossible to study.
