Optical image of spiral galaxy NGC 7252 also known as the Atoms for Peace Galaxy. The galaxy received the nickname after US president Eisenhower's speech promising the use of nuclear power for peaceful purposes. NGC 7252 looks similar to an atomic nucleus surrounded by the loops of electronic orbits. Its loop-like outer structures were formed by a collision of two galaxies two billion years ago. These structures were made of gas and stars from the collision. | |
