Slangkop Lighthouse, Kommetjie, Western Cape, South Africa. The lighthouse was built in 1914, becoming fully automated in 1979. It was first commissioned by Sir Francis Hely-Hutchinson (Governor of The Cape of Good Hope) to safeguard against shipwrecks on the rocky shore. It is one of South Africa's oldest lighthouses and measures 33 metres high. Its light can be seen for over 50KM. | |
