This is a Jamaican Fruit-eating Bat (Artibeus jamaicensis). The species inhabits southern Mexico through Central America and NW South America as well as islands in the Caribbean. As the name implies, they eat fruit this individual was just finishing up a piece of fruit as we walked below it on a night hike. It seemed as interested in us as we were in it. An interesting natural history note this species gives birth twice a year. Observed along the Rio Napo, Loreto, Peru September 2018. | |
