The Collared Earthsnake (Atractus collaris) is a tiny, semi-fossorial snake found in the upper Amazon Basin of Ecuador, northeastern Peru, and adjacent Colombia. Variable in color, adults may be reddish, brown or nearly black dorsally. The genus Atractus is the most speciose of all colubrid snakes in South America yet, owing to their small size and secretiveness, most of its members are insufficiently studied. This individual was observed in a tract of rainforest off of the main branch of the Amazon River, Loreto, Peru, 2018. | |
