An inhabitant of the wet tropical forests of the upper Amazon Basin, the Black-headed Calico Snake (Oxyrhopus melanogenys) lives on the forest floor and lower foliage. The bright orange or red iris differentiates this species from O. vanidicus. The specimen was photographed on the Rio Sucusari, Loreto, Peru, in 2018. | |
