The Cave Salamander, Eurycea lucifuga, has a large range across the Midwest and Eastern United States. This individual was photographed in the Ozarks of Oklahoma. It has an aberrant color pattern. Its color pattern is faded and lighter than normally is the case. Normal specimens have a bright orange or red color base. It is also missing much of the distinctive black markings that should be on its dorsum. The species frequents limestone rock areas and can be found above and below ground. This individual was photographed in 2019. | |
