This dragonfish (Eustomias schmidti), was trawled in the Gulf of Mexico between 400 and 700m depth, at night, 2019. This species has a distinctive light organ below and behind each eye and rows of photophores running down its sides. The barbel has a lure at the end of it that glows in the dark and is used to attract prey items to within striking range of the dragonfish.
