The Spotted-thighed Poison Frog or Brilliant-thighed Poison Frog (Ameerega femoralis) is close in appearance to the syntopic Pale-striped Poison Frog (Ameerega hahneli). This species can be differentiated with the syntopic A. hahneli in that A. hahneli has a black ventral color with blue marbling; A. femoralis just has black and white marbling. This species is relatively common in the leaf litter of wet forests throughout the upper Amazon Basin and can grow to just over 2cm total length. They are most active just before dark but do call throughout the day. This individual was photographed in the Amazon Basin of Peru, 2019. | |
