The Pygmy Leaf Toad (Amazophrynella minuta) usually escapes notice owing to its dead-leaf dorsum. But flip one over and an orange ventral patch is revealed. Presumably they possess toxic skin secretions and, when threatened, the tiny amphibian flips over to reveal the warning colors. They are often seen in leaf litter around the bases of trees in Amazon rainforest. They are found in the upper Amazon Basin. This individual observed along the R??o Sucusari, Loreto, Peru, 2016. | |
