Rita's Glass Frog (Vitreorana ritae) is an uncommon Amazonian amphibian known from eastern Ecuador and the Leticia region of Colombia and eastern Peru east to the Guianas. It was described from Benjamin Constant, Brazil. Glass frogs deposit eggs on leaves above a water source. The adults (the male, the female, or both depending on the species) attend the eggs and defend them from small predators, including wasps and flies. When the eggs hatch, the tadpoles drop into the water below and develop. This specimen photographed off of the R??o Sucusari, Loreto, Peru - September 2017. | |
