The Ringneck Snake (Diadophis punctatus) uses its bright color on the underside of its tail as a decoy to get potential predators to focus on the other side of its body. If handled, the snake readily turns its tail over to display these bright red colors. This individual is from Delaware County, OK, USA. Photographed in September 2019. | |
