The Senegal bichir (Polypterus senegalus) is also known as the 'Gray Bichir' and 'Cuvier's Bichir.' It is in the family Polypteridae and ranges from West Africa (Senegal, Gambia, Niger, Volta and Chad basins) northeast to the Nile River Basin as well as lakes Turkana and Albert.
