During the first quarter moon in February, March and April each year moorish idols (Zanclus cornutus) aggregate on certain current swept reefs in Palau, Micronesia. Here they wait until there are enough in number to make a concentrated rush out into blue water far from the reef where they spawn near the surface. Many predatory fish and sharks also wait for them and predation is high, especially at the moment of spawning. | |
